Hi everyone! My name is Heather Woodruff, and I am one of the treating vets at the 2010 World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park.  We’ve been on site since Friday, September 10, mostly getting set up and ready for all of the horses to arrive.  The first horse came in on September 9-he came in all alone and had the grounds to himself for 24 hours before more horses arrived.  Since then horses have been arriving slowly and at this point we have about 150-175 competition horses on site.  It’s getting more and more exciting as the day of Opening Ceremony gets closer!

We haven’t been too busy yet, mostly running fluids to the horses when they arrive.  The horses that are coming from Europe are staying for 2 days at the Cincinnati airport quarantine, and they are arrived in the best shape.  Our other horses are either coming through LA and flown to Lexington or coming through Miami and driven up to Lexington.  It has been mostly those horses that are a little dehydrated and stressed when they arrive.  We put catheters in their jugular veins and run 10 or 20 liters of fluids to them and they bounce right back!   There have been a few horses that were more sick than that, but are doing well at this point
