The 9th Edition of The Merck Veterinary Manual has just been released. It is the collaborative work of more than 350 contributors and features 35 new chapters, 30 new tables, and more than 400 new pages of material, including new coverage of ophthalmic emergencies and equine emergency medicine.

This edition includes a section on West Nile virus, which was not present in the United States when the previous edition was published, and another new section on Hendra virus infection in the horse. Additionally, there are new chapters on pain management, biosecurity, fever of unknown origin, the human-animal bond, and paraneoplastic disorders (complications from cancer)
