- Topics: Article
Duke, a gray Percheron/Thoroughbred cross police horse in the Lancaster, Pa., mounted unit, was rushed to the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center on Dec. 16 for emergency colic surgery, according to an article on lancasteronline.com. Duke is expected to make a full recovery and return to duty in about three months.
Duke was found to have an impaction due to ingesting stone dust from the crushed stone flooring in the stalls, according to the article.
Duke's surgical and recovery costs will be nearly $10,000. The Lancaster mounted police unit has a foundation to which contributions can be made. Contact the Lancaster City Police Foundation, Box 10171, Lancaster, PA 17605 or online at lancasterpolice.com/PoliceFoundation.
