A Miniature Horse from Lowndes County, Georgia, has tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported March 20. This is the first case of EEE in Georgia horses confirmed this year.

The unvaccinated 3-year-old horse presented with acute onset neurologic signs, the EDCC said. The horse is recovering with supportive care.
