Poll Recap: Slow Feeders
Does your horse gradually munch on his hay or is he a speedy eater? Slow feeders can help encourage horses to spent more time consuming their forage and can minimize several health risks for your horse. But choosing one of numerous types of slow-feeders available can be a challenge.
In last week’s online poll, we asked our readers about the different types of slow-feeders they’ve used for their horses. We received more than 900 responses, and we’ve tallied the results!
More than half of the 929 respondents (546, 59%) said they have used a slow-feed haynet for their horses, while another 84 (9%) said they have used a slow-feeding trough with a metal grate. Another 57 individuals (6%) have used a slow-feed “pillow,” and 49 respondents (5%) said they have used a barrel-stye slow feeder. Forty-six people (5%) said they’ve used other types of slow feeders, while the remaining 147 respondents (16%) indicated that they have never used a slow feeder for their horses
