Florida Horse Succumbs to West Nile Virus

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has confirmed that a 2-year-old Quarter Horse gelding in Palm Beach County has died as a result of West Nile virus (WNV). The horse, which is reported to have been vaccinated, presented with clinical signs on Dec. 3.

WNV transmission occurs when infected mosquitoes feed on animals, as well as humans, after having fed on infected birds
