The Horse is celebrating National Bone and Joint Health Awareness Week, which is held the second week of October each year, by bringing you up-to-date information about equine bone and joint health. The week is sponsored by Phycox EQ Max, manufactured by Dechra Veterinary Products.

We’ll be posting articles Oct. 9-15 to help educate horse owners about current research and the importance of keeping horses’ bones and joints healthy and functioning properly.

If you own, train, or manage performance horses, you’re likely familiar with joint injections and stress-related bone injuries. In fact, research shows that osteoarthritis affects more than 60% of all adult horses, making it a leading cause of lameness in athletic horses. And bone weaknesses can lead to chips and fractures, consequences of which range from treatable to devastating.

Look for bone- and joint-health related content all this week on TheHorse.com, our Facebook page and Twitter feed, and in our e-newsletters
