Two California men are facing charges for allegedly beating a horse in the head with a sledgehammer.
According to a Tulare County Sheriff’s Department incident report, just after 4 p.m. on May 27, law enforcement personnel responded to a tipster’s report that two men were beating a horse with a sledgehammer. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies discovered a horse tied to a flatbed trailer in the driveway of a residence in Porterville. The animal was alive, but had sustained head trauma. A veterinarian called to the scene examined the animal and subsequently euthanized the horse due to the severity of its injuries.
