Jeremy Reynolds Wins 2011 Tevis Cup
Crossing the finish line at 7:01 p.m. PDT, Jeremy Reynolds of San Jose, Calif., won the Oct. 8 2011 Tevis Cup Ride on the 7-year-old bay Arabian gelding, Riverwatch. It was the third win for Reynolds, who clocked an unofficial time of 100 miles in 10 hours, 31 minutes, not including two mandatory, one-hour holds.
Rachel Shackelford, of Lincoln, Calif., finished 27 minutes behind Reynolds to claim second place on her 17-year-old gray Arabian gelding, BR Cody de Sol.
The pair rode most of the event together until around mile 85 when Reynolds pulled away, Reynolds explained: “It was just a great day to ride and it was so much fun to ride with Rachel.”
Veterinarian criteria required every horse crossing the finish line to pulse down to 68 hearty beats per minute within 30 minutes and trot out sound for an official veterinarian. Riverwatch pulsed down within minutes and was declared sound to confirm his win
