Goldikova Named Cartier Horse of the Year
- Topics: Article
Goldikova, who on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs won her third consecutive Breeders' Cup Mile, was named Horse of the Year in the Cartier Awards in London, England, on Nov. 16.
Trained by Freddie Head, the 5-year-old mare earned the top honor over Harbinger, Workforce, Canford Cliffs, and Twice Over. Soon after the Breeders' Cup, her owners announced Goldikova would remain in training and seek her fourth Breeders' Cup Mile in 2011.
The popular Goldikova also was named Cartier older horse of the year for the second straight year.
Cartier winners are determined by points earned in Pattern races, a panel of racing journalists, and readers of the Racing Post and Daily Telegraph in Great Britain
