The University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) has enhanced its interactive rabies map. Along with updated information for 2016, the map now contains new features that will make it easier for users to pick out specific results and dismiss irrelevant information.
The map, which displays the historical rabies data of Kentucky for the past 27 years, comes from the Kentucky Department of Public Health and is maintained by the UKVDL’s epidemiology section. The previous map displayed data by county. Users could hover over a particular county on the map to see the number of submitted tests or click on the county to see a detailed list of submissions that include test results, date, species, and type of exposure.
The new map not only includes the default results of all submissions, but also has the ability to filter results based on species and test result. Instead of having to deal with numerous years of submissions for a specific result or species, users can refine the map to display only the options relevant to their interests. The inclusion of these new filters could help improve public access to Kentucky’s disease information by allowing users to quickly find the results they need.
Individuals with questions or concerns about disease outbreaks can contact UKVDL at 859/257-8283
