New Jersey Reports First WNV-Positive Horse for 2015

In an Oct. 14 press release the New Jersey Department of Agriculture reported that a 10 year-old gelding from Gloucester County has been euthanized after testing positive for West Nile virus (WNV).
The horse became ill on Sept. 27 and was humanely euthanized on October 3.This is the first confirmed case of WNV in a horse in that state in 2015.
“Vaccinated animals are much less likely to contract deadly diseases, such as West Nile virus,” said New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher. “We urge horse owners to be vigilant in vaccinating their animals against diseases spread by mosquitoes
