Authorities in Miami-Dade County, Fla., are investigating an Oct. 6 barn fire that claimed the lives of one man and three horses.

Miami-Dade County Police Detective Robin Pinkard said the blaze, which occurred on the northwest side of Miami-Dade County, was reported by several nearby residents.

“They saw the smoke and called us at 1:12 a.m., on Sunday,” Pinkard said.

Investigators later found one man and three horses had perished in the blaze, Pinkard said. She added that it was unclear whether the man discovered dead at the scene was a horse owner or a stable worker. No further information about the fire was available, she said.

Both the Miami-Dade County police and fire departments are investigating the incident.

“Fire authorities are investigating where or not there was arson involved,” Pinkard said. “Police are conducting a homicide investigating to determine whether the man will killed deliberately.”

Both investigations are ongoing, she said.
