John A.E. Hubbell, DVM, Dipl. ACVA (anesthesiology) interim dean of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, was presented with the prestigious 2008 Ohio Veterinary Medical Association Veterinarian of the Year Award Feb. 20 at the Midwest Veterinary Conference. This award represents a lifetime of achievement and selfless service to the veterinary profession, said Matthew Verbsky, DVM, during the presentation.
Since graduating from Ohio State in 1977, Dr. Hubbell has been a mentor and leader to those at the college and among veterinary professionals. Since 1982, he has held administrative positions as head of the Anesthesia Section, director of the Veterinary Hospital and associate dean for Academic Affairs. Twice during his career he has served as interim dean of the college, effectively unifying the college during transition periods.
Hubbell is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists (1982). He is author of numerous articles on veterinary anesthesia and coauthor of two textbooks: Handbook of Veterinary Anesthesia and Equine Anesthesia Monitoring and Emergency Therapy. His research interests center on the pharmacology of anesthetic drugs, equine anesthesia, and veterinary medical education
