In an article by Billy Powers on the Calgary Sun Web site, the writer lamented that today (June 15) might be the last day for Thoroughbred racing Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
“When they finish the eighth race on today’s Stampede Park card, that’ll be it–there will be no more,” Powers said.
Alberta Horse Racing, the governing body for racing in the province, rejected several requests from Stampede Park for a new license. The requests were denied. A new racetrack near Balzac is planned.
