Did you know that the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) is the world’s largest professional asso-ciation of equine veterinarians? Did you also know that the AAEP has a Foundation? The AAEP Foundation was created and established as a 501(c)(3) in 1994 as the charitable arm of the AAEP, and it operates under a Founda-tion Advisory Committee comprised of a group of highly regarded AAEP member veterinarians and equine industry leaders.

The AAEP Foundation’s mission is to improve the health and welfare of the horse through support of research, education, benevolence, and the equine community.

An important piece of information is that the AAEP organization supports the administrative costs of the AAEP Founda-tion; therefore, 100% of all donations received by the Foundation are used directly to help horses.

The AAEP Foundation is much more than a funding organization. It was founded to unite everyone who is dedicated to improving horse health, and it remains dedicated to helping horses through relevant research, education, and outreach.

There are many ways that horse owners can “Help Us Help Horses.” The AAEP Foundation has an established funding program along with many programs dedicated to helping coordinate equine research and sharing the results of this co-ordination with those involved in the equine industry. The Foundation also provides scholarships to those individuals with a sincere interest in equine veterinary medicine.

A sample of programs the Foundation helps includes:

  • Industry Panels and Summits The Foundation actively sponsors meetings covering research topics impor-tant to the equine community. They have brought together world leaders in horse health for events such as the Laminitis Blue Ribbon Panel, Equine Genome Panel, Equine Respiratory Panel, Equine Colic Research Symposium, and Equine Research Summit.
