Training for Reality Starts With You
Whether in the military, a veterinary clinic, an emergency responder or law enforcement, or a sports team, it is common knowledge that the only way to truly prepare oneself to do something well is to “train as you fight” (a saying we use in the Army). Training for Reality truly starts with you, and requires you to get involved and take safety seriously when working with and around horses.
Psychologists, sports physiologists, military leaders, and career managers all know that when your brain and muscles have never been in a situation before–that there will be limitations to how you react and perform. Thus the numerous drills, constant training, and repetitive efforts at realistic training in all of the above professions (and within professional equine circles as well).
That is the challenge for all of us to successfully respond to equine technical emergencies at home or on the road
