Horse owners in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, are being asked to have their say about the possible introduction of mandatory identification for all horses in that state.

The NSW Department of Industry (DPI) is seeking feedback via a short online survey to gauge interest and support for a simple NSW horse identification scheme.

“This initiative was originally raised by NSW Police via NSW Rural Crime Investigators,” said DPI Director of Biosecurity and Food Safety Compliance Peter Day, MA. “(The) DPI is prepared to take the initiative forward but we would need the support of the horse industry.

“I invite horse owners to participate as their feedback will help mold the future of the equine industry,” he continued. “People can respond to the survey on the DPI website, on the NSW DPI Biosecurity and Food Safety Facebook page, or by completing an online survey form e-mailed to horse associations and groups
