In honor of reaching 100,000 fans on Facebook, TheHorse.com is encouraging members of its online community to participate in an effort to volunteer 100,000 minutes of service to the equine industry.

Community members can log their future volunteer hours upon completion at TheHorse.com/100kMinutesofService. Eligible service activities include volunteering with an equine rescue or welfare organization, therapeutic riding center, land-use organization, equestrian event, or other unpaid work that encourages responsible horse care and usage. Once members submit their service hours, they will be invited to share their contribution with their friends via Facebook or Twitter. Volunteers will also be able to post pictures to TheHorse.com’s Facebook page for possible inclusion in a slideshow about the 100,000 Minutes of Service campaign.

In addition to their individual volunteer endeavors, staff from The Horse and TheHorse.com will be participating in a group volunteer activity on April 9 at the Kentucky Equine Humane Center as part of this effort. The mission of the Kentucky Equine Humane Center is: "To provide humane treatment and shelter while working to find adoptive homes for all of Kentucky's unwanted equines, regardless of breed." Staff members will help with maintenance projects around the farm.

“Our fans are wonderfully passionate about their horses and making sure they give them the very best care,” said Stephanie L. Church, Editor-in-Chief of The Horse. “I love to think about how at all times around the world these fans are managing their horses, riding them in arenas and on the trails, and researching preventive care tactics and treatments for health conditions
