Sarah Appleby, DVM, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, received the Northwestern Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association (NWPVMA) Equine Symposium Scholarship from the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Foundation for her academic excellence, as well as leadership in her school and AAEP student chapter.

She accepted her $4,000 award Dec. 3 at the 2018 AAEP Convention in San Francisco, California. In additional to the financial award, Appleby received a travel stipend and complimentary convention registration.

Veterinary student applicants are nominated for the scholarship by representatives from their colleges. Each accredited college or school of veterinary medicine with an AAEP student chapter may use its own criteria to nominate a fourth-year veterinary student who plans to enter equine practice
