A New York man is facing multiple charges after being arrested in connection with the shooting death of a horse last year.

In December, police personnel responded to a complaint of shots fired near a horse farm in Kirkland. When the officers arrived, a witness reported seeing a white man using a long gun to shoot into a pasture from inside a gray Dodge Avenger. Later the same afternoon, an owner called police to report that her show horse had been fatally shot in the neck. Two other horses in the same paddock at the time of the shooting were unharmed. While snowfall prevented investigators from recovering any bullet casings from the pasture, Kirkland Police Chief Daniel L. English said his department has received many calls about seeing the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident.

Those tips paid off on Feb. 2 when Robert Webster Jr., of Durhamville, New York, was arrested in connection with the incident.

In a written statement, Kirkland Police Department Officer Shawn Occhipinti said Webster has been charged with Class D Felony Criminal Mischief, criminal mischief in the second degree, Class E Felony Animal Cruelty, and Class A Misdemeanor Reckless Endangerment
