Chemung County, New York, EHV-1 Quarantine Lifted

The affected farm completed all quarantine requirements and only the index case showed signs of disease.

New York animal health officials have lifted the quarantine on a farm in Chemung County, New York, where one case of non-neurologic equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) was diagnosed in early February.

Earlier this month, an aged Quarter Horse mare, displaying only recurrent fever, inappetance, and nasal discharge, was confirmed positive for the non-neuropathogenic strain of EHV-1 on PCR.

The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported Feb. 29 that the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets lifted the quarantine on Feb. 27.

“The farm completed all quarantine requirements,” a statement on the EDCC website read. “Only the index case showed signs of non-neurologic EHV-1. No other horses at the farm displayed signs of EHV-1 during the quarantine
