The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) announced that following testing of all 59 horses in Barn 12 at Woodbine Racetrack, in Ontario, Canada, 20 horses are now confirmed positive for the neuropathic strain of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1). The affected horses have either been isolated or sent to Ontario Veterinary College for treatment. One horse was euthanized due to the severity of its clinical signs.

Testing followed the May 16 confirmation of two Thoroughbreds from Barn 12 with the neurologic form of EHV-1.

On May 19, the horses in Barn 12 that had previously tested negative were retested, and results are pending. All horses in the adjacent Barn 11 are also being tested, and Barns 33 and 35 have been locked down due to a horse exhibiting signs of fever. That horse has been isolated and was tested May 19, as well.

Woodbine Racetrack is in the process of identifying all people and horses that might have come in contact with or been in close proximity to Barn 12 horses. All biosecurity measures enacted on May 17 remain in effect
