Saddle Up Safely Participates in Concussion Conference

This was a joint effort by representatives of the university’s College of Medicine; HealthCare; College of Agriculture, Food and Environment; Sports Medicine Research Institute; Kentucky Neuroscience Institute; Spinal and Brain Injury Research Center; College of Health Sciences; and Saddle Up Safely.
As a result of the increasing focus on head and brain injuries, the International Ice Hockey Federation, the International Olympic Committee, Fédération Internationale de Football Association, World Rugby, and the Fédération Equestre Internationale have taken lead roles in organizing the conference into the world’s most influential process for policy makers on concussions in sports.
Conference attendees had several key goals, including finding ways to recognize when a concussion has happened more accurately, developing more effective treatments, revising return-to-play guidelines, and understanding the long-term consequences of repeated concussions so guidelines can be created to determine when an athlete should no longer participate sports
