The Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Veterinary Medicine’s (SVM) Partnering for Large Animal Health Education Series is a continuing education program for veterinarians that will take place Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature presentations on equine and farm animal health. The presentations will take place at the LSU SVM.

Topics will include the equine dynamic endoscope, equine upper respiratory surgery, septic joints, toxic plants, large animal services available at the LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital, integrative medicine, salmonellosis, equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopahty, chronic equine endometritis, and managing the high risk pregnant mare. Four hours of continuing education will be earned for this course.

Thanks to a generous donation from Boehringer-Ingelheim, there is no registration fee to attend these seminars, and proceedings, refreshments, and lunch will be provided. However, registration is required, so interested individuals are asked to either register online or download a registration form.

In addition to the seminars, faculty will also give tours of the new John Franks Equine and Large Animal Isolation Unit at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The facility is designed to ensure enhanced separation of potentially infectious animals from those horses and farm animals that are being admitted for elective medical/surgical evaluations or other procedures. Horses and farm animals with diarrhea (suspected for salmonella, clostridium, or other enteric diseases), respiratory conditions (with viral or bacterial causes), neurologic diseases (such as rabies or neurologic herpes), or other contagious diseases, will be housed exclusively in the new facility
