Public and private researchers studying equine infectious disease are invited to submit proposals for the 2013 Advancement in Equine Research Award Program, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI).

Proposals must address specific criteria to be considered:

  • Practical application and ability to improve the diagnosis, pathogenesis, transmission, control and/or prevention of equine infectious disease(s); and
  • Disease(s) can be bacterial or viral etiologies.

Veterinarians, diagnosticians, and public and private researchers in the United States and Canada are eligible to submit proposals for research programs that help advance the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of equine infectious disease. BIVI will provide five individual $15,000 awards to fund research.

Proposals must be submitted by Oct. 15 and will be reviewed by an independent equine research review board comprised of industry professionals, including practicing equine veterinarians and researchers. Awards will be selected based on established criteria, including potential impact on the equine industry; originality and scientific quality; and probability of success in completing the yearlong study.
