The killing of an 18-year-old Morgan horse in his San Jose, Calif. pasture has left his owners grieving and other area horse owners concerned that other horses might be targeted.
According to the online edition of The Mercury News, a group of endurance riders based in the area is offering $11,100 as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a the perpetrator who killed the Macias family’s horse.
A neighbor of the family found “Colt” in his pasture last Monday evening (Sept. 18). Julie St. Gregory, spokeswoman for San Jose Animal Care and Control told the paper Colt had “some sort of hole going up through his throat,” and one of his ears was missing. It was not clear to St. Gregory how the horse sustained either injury.
“We don’t know if he was shot or poisoned,” San Jose police officer Jess Macias Jr. told the paper. “My dad is pretty upset about it
