The horses range from the well-known Morgan, Paint, and Arabian to the less common Missouri Fox Trotter, Trakehner, and Friesian. Each of the breeds can be found at the 1,000-acre Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Scattered throughout the book are quotes on horses, the sources ranging from Shakespeare to Melville. The many photos illustrate the uses of each breed and show a typical example of each breed discussed. This is an excellent all-breed introduction and will be enjoyed by neophytes and horsemen alike
