A herd of horses is receiving rehabilitative care after being removed from a property in Wayne County, N.Y., last week.

Wayne County Animal Control investigator Tom Littlefield said a herd of 16 horses and one Miniature Horse were removed from a Sodus, N.Y., property owned by Cindy Denninger on April 17. One horse was found with a broken leg that had allegedly been unattended for at least a month, Littlefield said. All the removed horses were allegedly malnourished, he said.

In addition to the live horses, investigators discovered two other horses' carcasses on the property, Littlefield said.

“They still had their shoes and halters on,” he said
