A herd of 27 horses are receiving rehabilitative care after their removal from a farm in Warren County, North Carolina.

Warren County Animal Control Director Elma Rae Greene said that on Sept. 3 animal control personnel discovered the animals after receiving a call about an unattended horse on a roadway.

“Once we arrived, we found that about 18 horses had left the property,” Greene said.

Acting on a warrant, investigators subsequently found 27 horses residing on the property without adequate access to food or water
