Here in the Sierra foothills of No. CA, we have a short face fly season in late Spring, then just irritating flies looking for moisture around the eyes during our long dry summer. I used to use fly masks on everyone in the dry lot fields, but spent too much time each day walking the woods and dry creek beds looking for them! A few years ago, a boarder/friend recommended ‘War Paint’, and I have never looked back. Couldn’t live without the stuff, and the horses like it better too.
Fly mask are essential in the south
