For some horses, a pond or creek is a perfect opportunity to splash around, play, and cool off. But for others, something as small as a puddle can be terrifying. How does your horse react to water?

In last week’s online poll, we asked our readers how likely their horse would be to step into or cross a body of water, whether it’s on the trail or part of a cross-country course. More than 800 people responded, and we’ve tallied the results!

Of the 820 respondents, 396 (48%) said they are confident that their horses would cross water, while 340 (41%) individuals said their horse would hesitate, but eventually cross water with some encouragement. Another 60 individuals (7%) said there’s no way their horse would step into water. The remaining 24 respondents (3%) said they don’t ever expect their horse to be faced with stepping into or crossing water.
