Ohio authorities are seeking those responsible for shooting a horse grazing in a pasture.

Clark County, Ohio, Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Mike Young said deputies responded to a call from an owner reporting that his 9-year-old horse had been grazing in a pasture when the animal was shot in the leg on June 15. During their investigation, deputies found a .380-caliber cartridge casing on the road beside the horse’s pasture.

“We don’t know if the horse was targeted or if this was random,” Young said.

The horse is receiving veterinary care for the wound, he said.

The incident remains under investigation and, if convicted, those responsible could face multiple charges, Young said.
