Blue Horse Charities has awarded grants totaling $119,700 to 30 nonprofit organizations involved in the rehabilitation, retraining, and adoption of off-the-track Thoroughbreds.

Blue Horse Charities provides grants to qualifying organizations based exclusively on the number of registered Thoroughbreds placed into adoptive homes in a given calendar year. The Blue Horse Charities grant application process, which is managed by Thoroughbred Charities of America, identified 805 eligible Thoroughbreds that had been adopted out in 2012. Many of the adopted Thoroughbreds are now thriving in second careers as hunters, jumpers, eventers, and pleasure horses.

"We are pleased to support charities successfully working to transition Thoroughbreds from the racetrack into a second career," said Terence Collier, president of Blue Horse Charities. "We applaud their efforts and offer our grants in support of these efforts."

Founded in 2001, Blue Horse Charities is funded by contributions from buyers and sellers at Fasig-Tipton auctions. All contributions are matched equally by Fasig-Tipton. In addition to granting funds, Blue Horse Charities strives to educate owners about the suitable options for Thoroughbreds at the conclusion of their racing careers. To date, more than $1.8 million has been granted to more than 70 charities
