Following up on an article TheHorse.com first started covering on Jan. 9, the latest news from the multiagency rescue of more than 90 equids, including horses, ponies, and donkeys, from a farm in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, U.K., is that the rescued horses are on their way to recovery. The story was not so happy for 32 animals found dead on the property initially and three more that had to be euthanized. A report today (Jan. 19) on new.edp24.co.uk by Emily Dennis and Adam Gretton reported updates on some of the animals.


Redwings Horse Sanctuary at Hapton, near Long Stratton, received 22 of the equids, and those are “making good progress,” according to the article. Included in the 22 are two donkey foals, “one of which was born just hours after its mother’s rescue.”


The article quoted officials at the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) stating the 11 horses in their care at their Snetterton facility “were showing signs of making a full recovery, despite being ‘quiet and subdued’ and still in quarantine.”


Roly Owers, chief executive of the ILPH, said “the incident put added pressure on the charity’s resources and finances, which is set to spend £66,000 on vet and care bills on the 11 Amersham horses over the next year
