According to a recent report from the Daily Racing Form, a horse with rabies died May 12 at Penn National Race Course in Grantville, Pa. The 7-year-old Thoroughbred gelding showed symptoms of rabies and was placed in quarantine before he succumbed to the illness.
A veterinarian on the premises believed that the horse was probably bitten by a rabid wild animal that somehow made it into the barn, the report said. Veterinarians are unsure of whether the horse was bitten on the Penn National premises or while he was stabled previously at Philadelphia Park.
