Equine veterinarians representing the American Association of Equine Practitioners' (AAEP) On Call program will assist ESPN and ABC Sports with horse health information during the Nov. 5-6 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Renowned equine surgeons Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, and Wayne McIlwraith, BVSc, PhD, DSc, FRCVS, Dipl. ACVS, will be available to provide timely health reports to the media and viewing audience regarding the athletes in each race.
Bramlage is a partner at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He is a past president of the AAEP and a past chairman of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation's Research Committee. McIlwraith, who also is an AAEP past president, is a professor of surgery and director of the Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University. He holds the Barbara Cox Anthony University Chair in Orthopaedics. Both Bramlage and McIlwraith are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
The On Call program serves more than 50 televised equine events annually, and more than 25 media-trained AAEP-member veterinarians share their veterinary expertise as On Call spokespersons.
