Ensuring your horse is consuming essential nutrients — and staying away from grasses that look nutritious but can pose a health risk — are the topics of two new client-education brochures published by the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) in conjunction with educational partners Purina Mills, Inc. and Bayer Corporation, Animal Health.

“Hay Quality and Horse Nutrition” discusses the two categories of hay, how hay can help meet a horse’s nutritional needs, and evaluating hay’s quality before purchase.

“Fescue in the Horse’s Diet” explains the significant health risks associated with horses eating endophyte fungus-infected tall fescue. The careful management of horses and pastures is outlined for horse owners.
