Kentucky Equine Research (KER) will host its ninth annual Equine Nutrition Conference on April 26-27, 1999, in Lexington, Ky.
The conference will feature presentations by world leaders in equine nutrition and exercise physiology, including Dr. Pat Harris of the WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition (England), Dr. Harold Hintz of Cornell University, Dr. Derek Cuddeford of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (Scotland), Dr. Sarah Ralston of Rutgers University, Dr. Allan Davie of Southern Cross University (Australia) and Drs. Joe Pagan, Stephen Duren and Kathleen Crandell of Kentucky Equine Research. In addition to the presentations, each speaker will be available to answer specific nutrition questions in an informal, one-on-one atmosphere.
Presentations will address the latest research and developments in equine nutrition. Topics include feeding and management of the geriatric horse, vitamin E and selenium, effects of time of feeding and fat supplementation on exercise, relationship of glucose intolerance and developmental orthopedic disease in foals, the role of vitamins in skeletal development and new insights into digestive function in the horse. Several other lectures are also scheduled.
An international collection of more than 200 equine nutritionists, veterinarians, researchers and nutrition enthusiasts attended the 1998 nutrition conference. Leading researchers and graduate students from 15 colleges and universities gave presentations on state-of-the-art research in progress at their respective universities. Approximately 100 feed manufacturers and companies were represented at the two-day conference. Numerous educational booths and feed manufacturer exhibits were on display during the 1998 conference
