Professor Leo Jeffcott, Dean of Cambridge Veterinary School and one of the country’s leading equine vets has been appointed as a member of the Bureau of the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and Chairman of the Veterinary Committee for the next four years. He is the first British veterinarian to hold this office.


A specialized equine veterinarian for more than thirty years, Professor Jeffcott maintains a specific interest in equestrian sport, particularly the three day event. His international career history has included appointments as Professor of Clinical Radiology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden, Professor of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and Director of the Veterinary, Clinic & Hospital at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is the author of over 260 scientific papers and several books.


Professor Jeffcott is presently Professor of Veterinary Clinical Studies and has been Dean of Cambridge University Veterinary School since 1991. The School is currently undergoing a £20 million improvement program to provide the University with some of the most advanced equine diagnosis, treatment, and welfare facilities in the country. A new equine surgical facility (£650,000) was completed at the end of last year.


Professor Jeffcott has been involved with the FEI for over 20 years, as one of some 700 FEI event veterinarians around the world. He has been a member of the FEI Veterinary Committee from 1991 and was Chairman of the FEI Veterinary Research Sub-Committee from 1992-1995. He acted as official veterinarian at the last three Olympic Games and all three World Equestrian Games
