More than 20 horses have been evacuated and more are expected to follow in the wake of a wildfire burning in California’s Napa and Solano counties.

The CalFire websites indicates that the so-called Wragg fire began on July 22 near Lake Berryessa in Napa County. By July 23, the fire had burned 6,000 acres, threatened 200 structures, and was just 5% contained. The Canyon Creek and Lake Solano campgrounds were evacuated and a large animal evacuation center was established in Winters, California, a CalFire representative said.

Property owner and evacuation center operator Ernie Gaddini said 21 horses were brought to the facility by their owner in the early hours of July 22.

“The owner had three horse trailers and started moving the horses at 3 a.m. on July 22, and she and her helpers finished at 2 p.m.,” Gaddini said
