Members of the Breeders’ Cup Members and Trustees and the Board of Directors discussed a proposal before the state of New Jersey, home to Monmouth Park, site of the 2007 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, to conduct out of competition testing for erythropoietin (EPO).

In addition, the board, during a July 13 meeting in Lexington, also discussed heightened backstretch procedures for the week of the event, and received a planning update for the two-day races scheduled for Oct. 26-27.


The Members and Trustees elected six individuals to the Breeders’ Cup Board of Directors. Each director will serve a two-year term. Elected were:  Reynolds Bell Jr., Donald Dizney, Tracy Farmer, B. Wayne Hughes, G. Watts Humphrey Jr., and Robert Manfuso.


The board also received reports on 2007 television and marketing programs, including preparations for the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Challenge series, which will debut in Saratoga July 28.


The appointment of Pamela Newman as treasurer and chief financial officer of the corporation was also confirmed by the board
