The United Kingdom’s Daily Echo reports that a rider was mauled by a pig this week after it charged her horse, causing the horse to throw her to the ground.
Carolyn Robinson and her 18-year-old daughter were riding down a quiet county lane in the New Forest area (southern England), when they saw the pig circling a car with a woman and her dog inside. The pig changed its direction and “charged at speed,” which spooked Robinson’s mount, said the article.
“My horse spun around, started to panic and tried to run away,” she told the paper. “My horse bucked, threw me and galloped off. Then the pig attacked me.” She was able to get to her feet, but the pig pushed her into a hedge and was biting at her legs. Robinson was weakened by injuries in the fall, so she was unable to put up an effective fight, but her daughter, the woman in the car, and another witness distracted and “warded off” the pig.
Robinson spent two days at a local hospital with broken ribs, bruises, a concussion, and internal bleeding, according to the article
