During a Jan. 30 appearance on “Larry King Live,” owner Roy Jackson said a decision has not been reached concerning Barbaro’s burial.
“We just wanted to give some thought as to where the most appropriate place would be,” he said. “We didn’t want to make a decision on the spur of the moment. We are in the process of trying to work that out.”
He and his wife, Gretchen, as well as Dean Richardson, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, appeared on the CNN program the day after the colt was euthanatized. The Kentucky Derby winner was euthanatized at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, where he had spent the past eight months after shattering his right hind leg in the Preakness Stakes.
Roy Jackson also said that Barbaro’s dam, La Ville Rouge, is back in foal to Dynaformer and believed to be carrying a colt. Her future foal, as well as her yearling Dynaformer colt, will most likely be named for foxhounds in a family painting, as was Barbaro
