Two horses taken from their Florida barn in May have been found abandoned in a nearby field.

In mid-May, a Paso Fino gelding and a Quarter Horse mare were taken from their stalls at a ranch in Miami-Dade County. According to Miami-Dade Police investigators, someone entered the property by jumping the fence, then cut the wire so others could flee with the horses.

On May 30, a neighbor found both animals abandoned in a nearby field.

“The owner of the field called the owner of the missing horses over so that she could identify them,” said

Laurie Waggoner, ranch manager for the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. “The horses are thin and have halter burns on their faces, but they’re otherwise all right.”

The investigation into the horses’ disappearance is now closed, Waggoner said.
