The Kentucky Thoroughbred Association (KTA) will offer a seminar July 25 to assist breeders in filling out loan applications for funding tied to mare reproductive loss syndrome. The money is available through a federal law enacted in 2001.
Applicants must submit a signed form FSA 410-1 no later than Sept. 30, 2002, and applicants must be individuals or business entities that, as of Nov. 28, 2001, derived more than 70% of gross income from the horse breeding business.
From Jan. 1 to the end of October 2000, 2001, or 2002, qualified applicants must show that 30% or more of their mares failed to conceive, miscarried, aborted, or otherwise failed to produce a live healthy foal; or 30% or more of mares boarded on a farm owned, operated, or leased by applicants failed to conceive, miscarried , aborted, or otherwise failed to produce a live healthy foal.
